Pipe Insulation

There are several key reasons why insulating piping systems in a commercial building are important, and why you should call on us to audit your piping systems to determine any issues that could impede maximum efficiency.

Energy Efficiency: As a thermal barrier, pipe insulation reduces heat loss from hot water pipes and heat gain from chilled water pipes. When your HVAC systems are able to maintain desired temperatures more efficiently, cost savings are realized on the bottom line. 

Condensation Control: Specifying the type and thickness of insulation is the first step to a controlling condensation. Moisture can lead to corrosion of the pipes themselves, mold growth, and potential damage to cold piping, duchillers and drains among other building materials.

Freeze Protection: In colder climates, uninsulated pipes that exist in areas prone to extreme cold that carry water from A to B are at risk of freezing and bursting. Proper insulation helps prevent the pipes from reaching dangerously cold temperatures and protects against costly downstream repairs as a result of bursting.

Noise Reduction: Insulated pipes reduce any noisy vibrations as well as lessen the sound of water that course through the building pipes. This can create quieter environment for building occupants.

Personnel Safety:  Hot water pipes can be a burn hazard. Insulation helps to keep the outer surface of the pipe covered, reducing the risk of accidental burns for building personnel who may come in contact with the piping.

Insulation materials can include removable or in place insulation blankets, pipe insulation foaming, woven blanket wraps, and stay-in-place fiberglass forms.
